Fuel pump retail is ~$750 online for BNIB pump, plus a few hours of labor. Nothing outrageous. I think Audi did it just to be sure. Once I turned the car off/on again, it functioned like normal, so idk if it was a big deal or not. Like any Audi, keep on top of maintenance (oil changes, all filter changes, etc), and it should keep those costs down.
How reliable are Audi 3.0 TDI V6's? Been looking at upgrading to an A5 3.0 TDI from a fiesta, had a mate of a mate with one and was hooked since (it had an upgraded exhaust and sounded incredible for a diesel). Good performance and economy also looks good for long drives and motorway cruising.
